Getting started

How do I set up my morning?

On the first screen, pick a template (Sports Enthusiast, Breaking News or Top 10 Music Videos), tap the sources you want, or describe your morning in a sentence under Make it yours and tap Set it up for me. Then choose when it should be ready. You can change everything later in Settings.

Can I see the tour again?

Yes. On iPhone, go to Settings ▸ Help ▸ How EarlyWire works.

Which devices does it run on?

iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 26.1 or later, and Mac with macOS 26 or later. EarlyWire is free, with no in-app purchases and no account.

When your morning is built

My morning wasn't ready when I woke up.

On iPhone and iPad, iOS decides when background work runs, usually overnight while the device charges, so EarlyWire may build a few hours early or not at all on some nights. Opening the app is the sure way: it builds whatever is due straight away. If nothing was built, EarlyWire sends a reminder, "Time for your briefs", shortly after the time you set.

How do I build it now?

On Today, tap Refresh under Videos, News, & Music to pick today's videos and songs again. Written briefs have their own Refresh on their card, and each brief's page has Build Brief. On a Mac, the menu bar item also has Refresh videos.

How do I see what happened overnight?

Tap Status on Today for the last build and any notes, including what was left out of the Sports brief. Settings ▸ Activity lists every build, whether it was built by hand, on schedule or caught up late, with its notes.

How does it work on a Mac?

EarlyWire builds ahead of your times while it's running (it waits in the menu bar), and catches up when the Mac wakes or you open it. Turn on Open EarlyWire when I log in under Settings ▸ Schedule and Account. If macOS blocks it, allow EarlyWire under System Settings ▸ General ▸ Login Items.

How do I change the times?

Settings ▸ Schedule and Account. Each time is when a brief should be ready by. Times follow your device's time zone, including when you travel.

How do I turn notifications on or off?

EarlyWire uses your device's notification settings: on iPhone and iPad, Settings ▸ Notifications ▸ EarlyWire; on a Mac, System Settings ▸ Notifications ▸ EarlyWire.

Videos, channels and YouTube

What does Play all do?

It opens today's picks as a temporary queue in the YouTube app, or on youtube.com if the app isn't installed, using your own YouTube account and any Premium you have. Nothing is saved to your account, and a queue holds up to 50 videos.

How do I add or remove a channel?

Open Settings ▸ Sports, News or Music. Paste a YouTube channel link or @handle to add one, or tap the minus button next to a channel to remove it. Suggest channels finds more if you have Claude or Apple Intelligence.

Do I need a YouTube or Google account?

No. Videos, music, the chart and Play all work without signing in. Google sign-in is only for emailing a brief to yourself or your team.

Written briefs and listening

How do I listen instead of reading?

Tap Listen on a brief, or open Settings ▸ Listen and tap Start Listening. You can say "more", "next" or "repeat" if you turn on voice commands. You can also ask Siri to "Play my briefs in EarlyWire".

The voice sounds robotic.

Download an Enhanced or Premium voice: on iPhone and iPad, Settings ▸ Accessibility ▸ Spoken Content ▸ Voices; on a Mac, System Settings ▸ Accessibility ▸ Spoken Content. Then choose it in EarlyWire's Listen settings.

How do I email a brief?

In the brief's settings, turn on Email it and tap Allow Sending Email…. Google asks you to let EarlyWire send email as you; it can't read your mail. Google may say the app isn't verified: choose Advanced, then continue. Sign out any time under Settings ▸ Schedule and Account ▸ Google, or at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Claude and Apple Intelligence

Do I need either?

No. Without them, EarlyWire picks and groups stories by rules. Apple's on-device model, on devices with Apple Intelligence, helps with setup and summaries for free. Claude, with your own key, improves choices and suggestions.

How do I add or remove a Claude key?

Settings ▸ AI ▸ Set up Claude walks you through creating a key at Anthropic and pasting it in. Anthropic bills usage to your own account. To stop, tap Remove Key. Use this key on all my devices shares it through iCloud Keychain, encrypted end to end by Apple; it's off unless you turn it on.

iCloud and your data

Do my devices stay in sync?

Yes, with the same iCloud account: channels, rules, schedules, written briefs and the latest builds. Turn it off under Settings ▸ Schedule and Account ▸ iCloud ▸ Sync between my devices. Each device keeps its own Google sign-in.

What happens if I delete the app?

Its data on that device goes with it. Copies in iCloud stay until you remove them in your device's iCloud storage settings. To revoke Google access, use myaccount.google.com/permissions. See the privacy policy for details.
